The residential government school, which had denied admission to a divorced ‘girl’, admitted her to Class 9 on Wednesday after the incident got media hype.
The report was published in HT on August 26. Mamta, the warden of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Awasiya Vidyalaya (KGBAV) called the girl and her parents, resident of Kotgar village under Noamundi block on Wednesday for completing admission formalities. The girl and her parents have thanked HT and deputy commissioner of West Singhbhum Aboo Baker Siddique P for ensuring her admission.
The girl told HT, “I had lost all hopes to restart my education as the school administration had denied admission over my divorcee status. Sincere efforts of the DC, member of Zila Parishad from Noamundi 2, Laxmi Suren and HT gave me a hope to opt for a new beginning. I will give my best to complete my school education and pursue for a government job”.
Her parents, marginal agricultural labour said that they were worried about future of her daughter since she had divorced her husband at the age of 19. Only education can bring new light to her life, hence she wanted to go for higher studies, they added.
Laxmi Suren said that after publication of the said news, she had talked to the DC over injustice to a girl. Taking prompt action, he directed officials of the education department to get the girl admitted and such cases should not be repeated in future, she added.
“The DC was surprised that how a government school can deny admission to a divorcee or married girl. Person, having such approach, has no right to continue in school administration as it is violation of girl’s Fundamental Rights as well as Right to Education. Strict action will be taken in future if such cases will be repeated, the DC has assured”, Suren said.

{{/usCountry}}The Zila Parishad member said that no girl should be denied education over her marital status. Rather schools should ensure best education to girls and let them empower with a successful bright future, she added.
Till last week, the warden had been insisting for not giving admission to the girl as she was a divorcee. Mamta had claimed that a married or divorcee girl may hamper academic atmosphere in the residential school hence she could not give admission to the girl.
School warden, Mamta said that the girl has been given admission as the DC had instructed for it.
