There were celebrations everywhere. Freshly washed houses dazzled with strings of marigold garlands, terracotta bells and earthen lamps. The houses with fresh coats of paints sparkled too with electrical lightings, artificial flowers tastefully strung on doors, pillars and window sills.

Greetings received from friends and relative through SMS, e-mails and hand delivered cards lit up the day. Elders, keeping aside their worldly worries, joined the festival fun with children to make it a memorable occasion.

Temples, specially those dedicated to goddess Laxmi, were decked up as devotees arrived with diyas to seek her blessings. Afternoons and evenings were spent savouring gujhiyas, mathris and other Diwali delights. Evening and nights were spent lighting crackers, receiving near and dear ones with warm hugs.

Late evening sky burst with colourful crackers as establishments and organisations arranged spectacular fireworks shows. Rajwada, where grand firework show is held every Diwali, was no exception.

A brief spell of rains and power failure took denizens by surprise but it didn’t dampen the spirit, as people shopped at the malls, Sarafa, Rajwada that all dazzled with lights. Sweetmeat that registered brisk sales were the busiest.
Celebrations continued on Annakoot and Govardhan Puja that were observed on Sunday. Cattle were decked up with exquisite headgears made of peacock feathers, wool and ghunghroos.
