DM Amrit Abhijat has set June 15 as the deadline of deepening 218 selected ponds in the district and also instructed the BDOs to develop two ponds in their blocks as the 'ideal ponds'. In a meeting held recently, he also fixed the target of planting 43.61 lakh trees to almost 27 departments. "The best pond will be chosen and the village head and others associated will be felicitated by the chief minister or chief secretary," he said.He said that both the plans pertaining to deepening of ponds and plantation of trees will be given special priority and stress will be laid on seeking maximum help from the citizens, village heads, BDC members, Zila Panchayat members, etc. He also told about taking support of SDMs, BDOs and block chiefs and representatives of other departments in this respect.

The BDOs have been instructed to verify the dug up ponds after which the payment will be made. The mounds formed by the soil extracted after deepening the pond will be used to plant trees. It was also decided that all the 30 ponds chosen by GB Pant Institute will also be included in the list. Usar Bhumi Sudhar Nigam officials informed that they will take the responsibility of deepening 10 ponds while DM gave instructions to DFO to start the work at Mahuli pond in Koraon.
Yet another massive project of tree plantation was announced by DM according to which more than 43 lakh trees will be planted in the district. The trees in the city will also be numbered by the Nagar Nigam.
He further instructed the SDMs that the lease of land will be handed over to others if the allottees did not take steps regarding the planting of trees on that land.
