On Wednesday Jayalalithaa had regretted her alliance with the DMDK.

“We never ran after them. Rather, it was they who were chasing us to strike a tie-up,” Vijayakanth told a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Rising to Jayalalithaa’s dare to prove his mettle at the forthcoming byelection, the DMDK chief said: “It should be on an equal footing. We are ready to resign and go to the people. Is the AIADMK ready?”

Vijayakant said the chief minister entertained no criticism even in the assembly.

“We are not allowed to raise our voice on anything. We are not allowed to speak even during the question hour. Only whoever praises her is allowed to speak,” Vijayankant said.

On Thursday, Vijayakanth was suspended for 10 days by the speaker for his behaviour in the house on Wednesday.
