"There is a comment in his social networking portal extending his greetings to people on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaturthi. The people who handle his portal have commented out of enthusiasm.

It has been made without seeking the consent of MK Stalin," the party said in a statement.

Vinayaka Chaturthi (Ganesh Chaturthi) was celebrated countrywide on August 29 and a comment on Stalin's official Facebook page says "Greetings to all on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaturthi". The posting has also a picture of Lord Ganesha.

The posting has stirred up a storm in political circles as it ran quite contrary to Stalin's father, DMK chief M Karunanidhi's practice of not greeting people on Hindu festivals.
