"It is a legal matter which has to be fought in court. Instead of that, announcing staging protests against me outside the court is laughable," she said.

DMK treasurer and Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin had announced yesterday his party would stage state-wide protests on August 4 against Jayalalithaa for seeking frequent adjournments in the disproportionate wealth case at Bangalore "on some ground or the other and dragging the case for 13 years".

In a statement, Jayalalithaa said it was normal for the Opposition to only stage protests against the government on various issues. "The DMK's latest salvo against me is unheard of," she said.

A special court in Bangalore has set August 6 for commencement of trial in the case after turning down Jayalalithaa's appeal for fresh translation of documents relating to the wealth case in which her estranged foster son V N Sudhakaran is also accused.
