Doctors of Mumbai's KEM hospital strike work

The resident doctors were protesting assault on some of their colleagues by relatives of a patient.

The resident doctors of King Edward Medical hospital in central Mumbai went on a flash strike on Monday, protesting assault on some of their colleagues by relatives of a patient.

The resident doctors of KEM hospital at Parel went on strike after some of their colleagues were assaulted allegedly by the relatives of a patient who died last night, Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) spokesman Ajay Oswal said.

In a similar incident, some doctors were assaulted at Baba Hospital in suburban Bandra here on Sunday night. The doctors of the hospital have decided to proceed on strike, beginning this afternoon, he said.

Oswal said "as of now, we will give moral support to doctors of KEM and Baba hospitals. The MARD representatives are meeting the deans of the respective hospitals to decide the future course of action. During the meeting, the resident doctors will emphasise on the issue of security to the doctors."
