Sonu, along with another police personnel, was arrested on the charge of allegedly supplying arms to terrorists who lobbed a grenade at the Thathri police station on April 23, which though didn't explode.

Five other accused, including top terrorist Abdullah, was also arrested in the case. Abdullah, a top terrorist of LeT, according to sources, as per the deal with the Sonu, had agreed to bring terrorists from across the border who had beheaded jawans in Poonch in January. Sonu had a plan to kill these terrorists.

Sonu has also been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the RPC and the Arms Act under which if he is convicted, he will face life imprisonment.

Lawyers pleading the case of Sonu said they were also thinking of moving application before the court of special judge Prevention and Suppression and Sabotage Act. A team of top lawyers has now been hired to plead the case of Sonu Sharma.

The arrest of Sonu Sharma has also brought fears in the mind of people who had carried out successful anti-terrorist operations and also in those who had provided logistics and intelligence to the security personnel against terrorists, which resulted in wiping of terrorism in the Doda district.

Doda district was in the hey days of terrorists had seen many selective killings of minorities after which then BJP had started nation wide 'Doda Bchaoo' movement which helped in stopping migration of minorities from there, unlike what had happed in Kashmir.
