But what makes bigger news is when a bunch of dogs bite some maids in a locality and the issue snowballs into a situation where cases are filed against the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, the residents of the locality, and of course, the maids that have been bitten.

This is what is happening in Gurgaon after a criminal case was filed against Sonia Rogers—an animal loving airhostess who lives in Rosewood City—after the stray dogs she had taken as pets bit some maids.

On Monday, members of People For Animals (PFA) including Ambika Shukla, PFA founder Maneka Gandhi’s sister, met the Gurgaon police commissioner S.S. Deswal and requested a stay on the arrest of Sonia Rogers. She also sought criminal case against the maids and the Rosewood RWA members who, they alleged, instigated the maids to assault Rogers. Rogers is a resident of the same locality.

“The police commissioner has stayed the arrest of Rogers who has been booked on false charges made by the maids and residents of Rosewood.

Naresh Kadyan, the representative of the International Organization for Animal Protection (IOAP) in India, filed an application in Sadar Police station against the Gurgaon municipal commissioner Rajesh Khullar charging him of having failed to tame the issue of stray dogs in the city in compliance with the rules notified by the centre and the state government.

“The municipal commissioner has failed to comply and implement the Animal Birth Control Rules (Dogs) rules notified by the Centre and Haryana government. Very little has been done to control the birth of stray dogs and their protection from cruel human beings,” Kadyan alleged.

Refuting the allegations, Khullar said about 4,000 stray dogs had been sterilised in Gurgaon since September, when a memorandum of understanding was signed with an NGO.
