Don’t allow entry of mediocre foreign universities into India

I agree with Pratik Kanjilal’s views in Merton in Mohali, Balliol in Bandra? (Speakeasy, March 20) that substandard universities will make a beeline for India once the Cabinet approves foreign educational ventures.

I agree with Pratik Kanjilal’s views in Merton in Mohali, Balliol in Bandra? (Speakeasy, March 20) that substandard universities will make a beeline for India once the Cabinet approves foreign educational ventures. Kanjilal rightly argued that top educational institutions would never franchise themselves and we are going to be left with inferior universities like Monash. It would be outrageous to allow low-grade Australian universities to set up shop here. The government should not make matters worse in the education sector by allowing mediocre foreign institutions to enter the country.
