"We categorically refused to resign whatever the consequences will be. I appeal to all the panchayat members of the state not to succumb before any pressure," said AJKPC chairman Shafiq Mir, also a Congress leader.

The terror outfit had pasted posters warning leaders and workers of the mainstream parties like National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and the BJP, to resign from their respective parties.

"These people should go to the media houses or nearby mosques to vow their disassociation from these pro-India parties," said LeT posters, pasted in parts of Srinagar city's uptown localities.

The public representatives are asking the state and central governments "to make security arrangements". "If any attack is carried on any panchayat member, the government will be responsible," said Mir.

This time again, the LeT posters have threatened "pro-mainstream workers of dire consequences". "If they do not follow what is being directed, then they will solely be responsible for the safety of their family", read the poster.

The police have registered a case. It, however, is still in the process of verifying the veracity of these posters issued by LeT's self-style Srinagar commander Nawab Gaznavi. The posters were pasted on lamp posts in interior of the colonies.

"Posters have been seized. We are trying to ascertain the authenticity of these posters. These could be real or fake," said Central Kashmir DIG Ahfadul Mujtaba.

The police are not ruling out political rivalry behind these posters.
