Believing that a country's progress is impossible without development of villages, social activist Anna Hazare asked electorates in villages to choose candidates wisely.
Hazare was addressing villagers at Nathusari Chopta block in the district on Sunday. This was his first visit to the district.
Anna said: “Time has come when the electorate, mostly those living in the villages, should start exercising their intelligence, while voting for a candidate they are sending to the parliament or the assembly.”
Urging people to choose honest candidates without considering their political affiliations, he said: “Today, 163 parliamentarians are tainted, which is a cause of big concern and that can be rectified only if the electorate starts differentiating whom they should vote for and whom they should not.”
He said: “Don't vote for illiterate or history sheeters during elections, as they grab your vote and later indulge in committing illegal activities.”
About his country-wide tour with former Army chief, Gen VK Singh (retd) he said: “This is the second war of independence and we have to fight against corrupt people to save the country to establish a system into its right form and manner, which is completely out of place.”
He said the most ironic situation in the country is that the chosen representatives who beg for every single vote during elections, behaves and acts like dictators after assuming power.
