The government announced of providing Rs 1000 crores for setting up a new affiliated University in Dehradun. But later, the CM announced that the affiliated university would be set up in Srinagar, which already houses the headquarters of the HNB Garhwal University.

This move was met with stiff resistance by the residents of Rudraprayag district, who said that the affiliated university should be established there as the district lags behind in the field of education.

But in all this scenario, the students from Dehradun have now drawn the battle lines for the establishment of the university here. The students have said that the establishment of the affiliated university in Dehradun would benefit around 1 lakh students from Haridwar, Dehradun, Saharanpur and other regions.
