Dreaded gangster Dev Kumar and his four accomplices were gunned down by police in a fierce encounter.

Dreaded gangster Dev Kumar and his four accomplices were gunned down by police today in a fierce encounter in the jungles of Asiyota village under Ayana police circle, police sources said here.

Gang leader Dev Kumar carried a reward of Rs ten thousand on his head. His concubine Ranno were among the killed, they said adding that another gang member was captured alive.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party surrounded the gang in the wee hours but were fired upon, sources said.

The gang members later hid amidst standing maize crop but were gunned down after police team entered the field on a bulletproof tractor, sources said.

With the killing of five gamg members and arrest of another, the entire gang had been wiped out, sources said.
