In a bid to make the drive from Gurgaon to Jaipur smooth and hassle-free, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to induct certain changes in the widening plan.
With the addition of flyovers, pedestrian and vehicle underpasses on the NH-8 stretch — which is being widened to six-lane — local residents of upcoming townships in Sectors 81-86 and those working in industrial townships all along the highway in Manesar, Dharuhera and Bawal, will also benefit.
According to the new plan, nine more flyovers will be built, taking the present number up from 47 to 56. Eight vehicle underpasses (VUPs), two pedestrian underpasses (PUPs) or subways and one foot overbridge have also been considered on the stretch on the request of the Haryana and Rajasthan governments.
The new additions, however, will not only escalate the project cost by R200 crore but is also likely to extend the completion deadline from the earlier June 2012. Earlier, the total project cost was R1,895 crore.
According to NHAI officials, four of the new nine flyovers, one of the two PUPs and one FOB will come up in Haryana. Expecting huge population boom in the periphery of the Millennium City, the Haryana government had requested the NHAI top brass to build a flyover here.

{{/usCountry}}One footover bridge has been planned in Rewari on the request of local Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh. The number of exit and entry ramps will also go up. NHAI officials said bottlenecks will be removed for fast-moving traffic headed to Jaipur and beyond.
