Five Indian nationals, who were arrested here last week for allegedly possessing party drug Ketamine, had smuggled the contraband into Malaysia in lentil bean packets and newspapers, police said today.
They were arrested last Thursday after police raided a restaurant here and seized around 33 kgs of Ketamine from their possession, Federal Narcotics Department Director Deputy Commissioner Najib Abdul Aziz said, a media report said.
The drugs were packed in lentil bean packets and newspapers, The Star daily quoted him as saying.
The Indian nationals, on a tourist visa, were staying at a house near the restaurant.
Ketamine is smuggled into Malaysia in its raw form, which apparently is easily available in south India, after China, the Philippines and Singapore began a massive crackdown against drug peddlers, the daily said.
Ketamine is a legal drug in India and is used in the veterinary sector.
Most of the drug runners were from Chennai, intelligence sources told PTI.
Smugglers use various methods like strapping the drugs to their bodies and hiding it in luggage with flase bottoms and secret compartments to hoodwink security personnel at airports in Malaysia, the report said.
