Dylan show in Shillong for AIDS cause

Shillong, May 18 (PTI) Meghalaya capital, which has been celebrating the birthday of Americal cultural icon Bob Dylan for the last 33 years through music, would do it this time with a difference on May 24 next.

Meghalaya capital, which has been celebrating the birthday of Americal cultural icon Bob Dylan for the last 33 years through music, would do it this time with a difference on May 24 next.

Airtel, India's leading mobile services provider, in association with a city-based ngo 'Maitri', would celebrate the 65th birthday of Dylan here this year here dedicating it to the cause of AIDS awareness.

The 'great society' founded by Lou Majaw, a popular Dylan Singer of shillong, also joined hands for this event.

The two-hour show, to begin from 6 pm on May 24, would be performed by the 'ace of spades' comprising Arjun Sen, Lew Hil and Nondon Bagchi besides, Majaw himself.

Guest artistes Anjan Dutt, Neel Dutt and Liz Cotton would also participate in the show punctuated by poetry and messages on AIDS.

The objective is to build awareness about HIV/AIDS and help the word spread, Sanjay Sharma, director of Maitri and main event coordinator, told reporters.

Starting with 10 such children next month, the Maitrigram village to be built over 8 acres of land would host 100 HIV-affected children from the north east, chairperson of Maitri, Winnie Singh said.
