“Tourism is one of the largest job creators globally. The e-Visa facility will give a major boost to tourism. The countries to which it will be extended will be identified in a phased manner,” Jaitley said.

“This proposal complements the government’s expansion of the visa on arrival scheme,” Sajid Khan, country manager- India, South African Airways said.

Subhash Goyal, president, Indian Association of Tour Operators added: “This will give a near 40% boost to the tourism industry in the next one-and-half years and create many jobs.”
