Thirteen people were on Thursday caught in flash floods in the Tawi river on the outskirts of the city and rescued after a four-hour operation (in picture) by security forces. The group was caught in the flash floods while collecting sand from the banks of the river in Belicharana on the outskirts of the city, police said.

Their cries for help alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. Because of the strong waves, the army was also called in. After struggling for four hours, all the thirteen were rescued, they said.

"The level of the water was rising since yesterday following downpour for the last couple of days in the higher reaches."

The road connecting Mebo from Pasighat was completely washed away, cutting off surface communication, the DC said.
