Torrential rain continued in Punjab and Haryana, leaving 60 villages in Yamunanagar district flooded on Thursday. In other parts of the region, rivers flowed above the danger mark. Army personnel and civilians have begun relief operations in flood-hit areas.
Traffic was suspended on the busy road connecting Haryana with Himachal Pardesh after a 20-foot breach on the Yamunanagar-Poanta Sahib NH 73 near Urjani and Yakipur villages.

Thirteen people were on Thursday caught in flash floods in the Tawi river on the outskirts of the city and rescued after a four-hour operation (in picture) by security forces. The group was caught in the flash floods while collecting sand from the banks of the river in Belicharana on the outskirts of the city, police said.
Their cries for help alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. Because of the strong waves, the army was also called in. After struggling for four hours, all the thirteen were rescued, they said.
