The Election Commission today allowed the Karnataka government to take up works related to providing of drinking water including sinking of new borewells in 14 non-drought declared taluks in the state.

The state's request seeking permission for repair of defunct borewells and sinking of new ones has been approved by the Commission, Karnataka Joint Chief Electoral Officer, H C Nagendra told reporters here.
These works shall be executed by a committee of officials with no interference by ministers, the government has been told, he said.
