Global IT services firm EDS on Friday said it would double its headcount in India in this year to 6,000.
"We have close to 3,000 people in India at present. By the end of this year the number will double," EDS Vice President Business Workforce and Capacity Management Stephen R Heidt said on the sidelines of a conference on Indo-US Economic Cooperation.
EDS, which had revenues $19.8 billion in 2005, has Business Process Outsourcing and software development operations in the country and has delivery centres in Channai, Pune and Mumbai.
Heidt said the close to 70 per cent of the new recruitments in India would be for the software business.
To accommodate the new recruits, EDS would expand in the cities where it is already present.
Heidt said the expansion in India would be undertaken to work on the existing orders with EDS and the new ones that would flow.
Apart from India, EDS has delivery centres in 15 other locations.
He said the company follows best sourcing model according to which it gets work done at locations where it makes maximum sense.
