The East Midnapore district administration's efforts to send back those who fled their homes in Adhikaripara in the aftermath of the March 14 violence failed on Thursday as the move was opposed by the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC).
Superintendent of Police GA Srinivas said the BUPC organised a procession and opposed the return of those who fled their homes at Adhikaripara.
The BUPC has been spearheading the protests against the acquisition of land for industry in Nandigram.
BUPC convenor Sheikh Sufian said his group was not against the return of those who fled their homes in Adhikaripara but it was against them coming back with the help of police and the administration.
