Eight killed, five injured in Pak road mishap

The van driver lost control because of a tyre burst, causing him to smash into the other vehicle parked on a road near Manjhan.

Eight people were killed and five suffered injuries on Thursday when a van slammed into a parked truck in southern Pakistan, police said.

The van driver lost control because of a tyre burst, causing him to smash into the other vehicle parked on a road near Manjhan, a town about 210 kms east of the southern city of Karachi, local police official Farid Jan said.

The accident killed the driver and seven passengers, including a woman, her five sons and a granddaughter, while four others from the same family were injured, Jan said.

Five of them died at the spot and the other three succumbed to their injuries in a hospital, Jan said.

No one was in the stationary truck at the time of the accident, but a man cleaning the vehicle was also injured.
