Eight schoolchildren die as bus plunges into gorge
The accident occurred when the school children were returning after attending a science exhibition at Gageshwar.
Eight school children were killed and 20 injured, five of them seriously, when their bus fell into a gorge in Chamoli district of Uttaranchal on Saturday.
The accident occurred in Simli area when the school children were returning after attending a science exhibition at Gageshwar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Garhwal) RS Meena said.
Eight children died instantly, he said adding the bus was carrying mostly school children.
The injured were admitted to hospitals where the condition of five of them was stated to be serious, Meena said.
The exact cause of the accident was not immediately known, he said.
Uttaranchal Chief Minister ND Tiwari expressed grief over the the accident and asked the district administration to provide best medical facilities to the injured.
