Elaborate security arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of election in the fifth and final phase of the ongoing elections in the Jammu division scheduled to be held on Saturday.
This was disclosed by director general of police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar while chairing a high-level security meeting of police, para-military and intelligence agencies held at Police Control Room (PCR) here on Friday.
Reviewing the security arrangements put in place by different security agencies for the fifth phase of polling in 20 assembly constituencies of the Jammu region, the DGP said elaborate security arrangements have been made around the polling booths for peaceful conduct of polling in these constituencies.
During the meeting, Rajendra sought detailed reports from the police officers and other security agencies in regard to security and deployment of personnel in their respective jurisdictions.
Rajendra stressed upon the officers to ensure high alertness, especially in the border areas to check any infiltration attempt.
He said, "In view of the recent developments on the other side of border, we have to remain vigilant as the subversive elements could try to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the state".

The DGP asked the officers to implement the contingency plan already chalked out to meet any exigency.
"Zonal and sector officers should remain in touch with election cell, established in PCR that is functioning round the clock,' the DGP added.
He asked to strengthen the communication network to react quickly to any situation during the polls.
He appreciated officers and officials for "tireless effort during the past four phases that ensured incident-free elections."
During the meeting, the DGP was apprised by the officers about the deployment of forces and preventive measures put in place to ensure peaceful polling in all the constituencies going for polls.
