An elderly couple was hacked to death in their sleep and their house was looted at Mangasari village of west Sikkim near the West Bengal border, official sources said on Thursday.

"The killing took place on Tuesday night and one Janam Rai of West Bengal, a frequenter to the village who is missing at present, has been identified as one of the suspects in the case, district collector Ravindra Telana said phone from Geyzing, the west district headquarters.
A search operation has been launched to track him down, the DC said adding that burglary appeared to be the motive behind the murders.
