Elderly man shot at in loot bid

A BAND of motorcycle-borne miscreants shot at an elderly man and seriously injured him during a loot attempt in Chetganj area on Saturday night. The victim Baijnath Keshri (72) was admitted to the district hospital.

The SSP suspended two police constables deployed in the area on the charge of dereliction of duty. Baijnath Keshri of Ram Katora is a broker in the foodgrains market in Gola Dinanath and Vishweshwarganj. He used to receive payments on Saturday evening. After collecting payments from traders in Gola Dinanath around 10 pm, he was walking home to Ram Katora. Three youths on a motorcycle stopped him near his house.

Baijnath held a cloth containing raw spices. The miscreants mistook it for money and started snatching it. When Baijnath offered resistance, the miscreants whipped out a pistol and opened fire. A bullet hit Baijnath’s right thigh and he slumped to the floor. Soon, miscreants fled the scene with looted spice.

The injured man was rushed to the district hospital by locals. He told police he had kept Rs 3,000 in a waist pouch and the miscreants could not loot it.Police launched a massive vehicle- check throughout the city, but could not nab the miscreants. Police continued raids to nab the miscreants.

Auto-lifters gang busted

POLICE HAVE arrested eight members of an inter-state auto-lifters’ gang and recovered three luxury cars in Chandauli district here on Sunday.

Earlier on August 26, police arrested two members of the gang and recovered two mobile phones from them. It was on the basis of surveillance of the mobiles that the police busted the gang. The arrested criminals belong to Bihar and other places. However, the mastermind of the racket could not be arrested.

Briefing media persons about the arrests, SP (Chandauli) Pravin Kumar, said that acting on a tip off on the basis of surveillance, cops laid a trap on the national highway on the Chandauli-Saiyadraja route on Sunday. While the cops spotted three suspected vehicles passing by the road, they asked the drivers to stop the vehicles for checking. During the checking, the occupants of all the three cars could not produce the legal papers.
