The BJP’s national executive is meeting on Monday-Tuesday to review the political situation following its debacle in Uttar Pradesh and Goa.
But most likely, the important subject would be the Presidential poll as Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat is filing nomination as an independent candidate on Monday.
Former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee, LK Advani and BJP chief Rajnath Singh are expected to urge the party leaders to reach out to the MPs and MLAs to make Shekhawat’s appeal for “conscience vote” work against UPA nominee Pratibha Patil.
Rajnath does face criticism within over the way his team has handled the elections in UP and Goa. He has sought to invoke the principle of “collective responsibility” to dismiss suggestions that he take personal responsibility for the BJP’s poor showing.
The conclave will adopt resolutions on the controversial Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project, the country's political situation and the farm crisis.
