The Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) has issued notices to 12 medical students for their alleged involvement in the paper leak scam unearthed recently by the state crime branch.
The students of Government Medical College here had allegedly purchased question papers a day before the Common Entrance Test-2012.
The students have been asked to explain why their admissions should not be cancelled.
"Notices have been sent to the 12 students asking them to show cause within seven days," said GMC principal Dr Muhammad Rafiq Pampori.
"We have no role in the process so far. We cannot take action until the BOPEE cancels their admission, because the students were selected by the board, not the medical college," said Rafiq.
"We can only terminate their admission when orders come from the BOPEE," said Rafiq.
The development in the BOPEE scam has come after Jammu and Kashmir high court directed the board to cancel the admission of the 12 students who had allegedly purchased question papers for the 2012 MBBS examination.
A division bench of justice Virender Singh and justice MH Attar passed the order after perusing the status report of the crime branch in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking probe into fraud in the Common Entrance Test conducted by the BOPEE in 2012.
