State Education Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil allayed fears that students who cannot access the Internet would lose out on college admissions.
He said his department has ensured that the online admi-ssion system would not fail.
The state will launch its website, fyjc.org.in/mumbai, where students can apply for colleges on Wednesday.
With the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) exam results just weeks away, the online admission process is under scrutiny.
All precautions have been taken to ensure that the website, designed by government subsidiary Mumbai Know-ledge Corporation Ltd, does not crash like it did last year.
While the SSC Board has uploaded data of its students on the website, the ICSE and CBSE Boards are yet to do so.
“Students will have to type in their SSC exam seat number and the form will appear on the computer screen,” the minister said. “Once the admission process is complete, students will be informed through an SMS, or check on the Internet, the college merit list or the nearest submission centre.”
The state will set up 874 help centres in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to help students who cannot access Internet — for free. There will also be 350 submission centres where they can give the filled forms.

{{/usCountry}}“We have done a mapping of slum areas and rural areas in Thane and Raigad and will put up help centres accordingly,” said Vikhe-Patil.
The state is negotiating with the electricity board to curtail or make public the loadshedding timings when the online process will be on.
