Even after his sudden death, APJ Abdul Kalam’s official Twitter handle with more than 1.41 million followers will continue to “ignite minds”, one of the favourite activities of the former President.
Kalam was a source of inspiration to many, including his aide and colleague Srijan Pal Singh, who has taken over as administrator of the “Missile Man’s” Twitter handle.
At the stroke of midnight on Tuesday, Kalam’s Twitter account saw a change – the profile that was “APJ Abdul Kalam” became “In memory of Dr Kalam”.

Singh, who co-authored the books “Target 3 Billion” and “Reignited: Scientific Pathways to a Brighter Future” with Kalam, pledged to continue spreading the message of the scientist’s work and mission through the official Twitter handle.
In subsequent tweets, Singh posted about Kalam’s last lecture at IIM-Shillong, where he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on Monday evening.
On Tuesday morning, the account tweeted an image of Kalam with a policeman from Meghalaya whom he had insisted on meeting to thank him for being alert while standing for more than two hours in a pilot vehicle that was part of the former President’s motorcade for the 100-km journey from Guwahati to Shillong.

Kalam’s sudden death shocked the country and tributes poured in from numerous Indians, for whom the former President had redefined India. Thousands took to Facebook and Twitter to pay homage to their beloved hero.
Kalam’s official Twitter account has nearly double the followers of the official handle of the current President. He had last tweeted at around noon on Monday about his lecture at IIM-Shillong.
This tweet was retweeted more than 16,000 times after the news of his death broke, and several hashtags, including and , trended through the night on Monday.
Kalam loved to interact with youngsters and realised the importance of social media in igniting minds. He kept his followers updated about new projects, lectures, and tours to universities and educational institutions across the globe.
