An ex-serviceman was arrested for trying to sexually assault an eight-year-old girl in Dehradun, police said on Thurday.
On Tuesday, Shankar Gurung, resident of Nai Basti area, took his neighbour - a student of class III- to a nearby temple on the pretext of helping her learn painting and tried to assault her, the police said.
Gurung was arrested yesterday after the girl escaped and narrated the incident to her family members who lodged a complaint against the accused, they said, adding that the girl has been sent for medical examination.
