Fake medicine unit busted in Ghaziabad

The Special Operations Group (SOG) and Health Department have busted a spurious drug manufacturing unit at Ghaziabad. Fake drugs, wrappers and equipment used in manufacture and packing of such drugs were seized, the police said on Tuesday.

The Special Operations Group (SOG) and Health Department have busted a spurious drug manufacturing unit at Ghaziabad.

Fake drugs, wrappers and equipment used in manufacture and packing of such drugs were seized, the police said on Tuesday.

The plant was being run in F-Block area of Nandgram in Ghaziabad.

“Following a tip-off from some renowned companies, the SOG and health department raided the premises and recovered material and equipment,” heath-inspector R.P. Pandey said.

“These people were preparing fake medicines, ointments and cough-syrups. Some samples have been sent for tests.”

Spurious drugs and packing material related to over dozen renowned drugs and medicines were recovered in the raid.

“We have arrested four persons,” an SOG official, not authorised to speak with the media, said. Vinod Bhardwaj, the owner of the unit, fled the spot minutes before the raid, an official said.

“We have tracked his mobile number and he will be arrested soon,” a police official said.
