The prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp case, Abdul Karim Telgi, plans to appeal against his conviction in the Bombay High Court, one of his lawyers said in Pune on Friday.
Telgi was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a stamp case this year.
Telgi and two co-accused in a fake stamp paper case, registered at MRA Marg police station in Mumbai, were awarded 10 years of imprisonment under different sections of IPC by Special Judge UD Salvi on February 28.
They were also fined Rs 50,000 each.
"We would be very soon filing an appeal in the High Court against his conviction in this case," one of Telgi's lawyers Yogesh Pawar said.
"As in this case the adhesive stamps that were seized were found to be genuine following a test done by a scientific laboratory in Nasik, Telgi is not liable to be charged under the sections that he has been found guilty," Pawar said.
Telgi had recently signed a `vakalatnama' appointing Pawar and Harshad Nimbalkar as his lawyers to file the appeal in the High Court.
