India will soon get a flavour of Mexico as the famed musical quartet Tambuco is set to do a two-city concert tour early next month.
The percussion ensemble, comprising talented Mexican youths, will perform in New Delhi's Siri Fort Auditorium on September 5 and in Mumbai's Tata Theatre September 8, said an Indian embassy press release.
The event is part of the cultural exchange programme signed between India and Mexico in October 2005.
The quartet's visit to the Indian cities is being jointly organised by the Indian ministry of culture, the Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Mexican embassy in India.
Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd and the Aditya Birla Group will sponsor the entire cultural programme.
Tambuco comprises four lead Mexican musicians - Ricardo Gallardo, Artistic Directo, Alfredo Bringas, Raúl Tudón and Miguel González.
The percussionists will also interact, exchange ideas and share their experiences with Indian musicians during their trip.
Tambuco has eight musical albums to their credit. Their recent work Carlos Chávez Complete Chamber Music received two Grammy nominations.
They have participated in well-known philharmonic orchestras like the Philaharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City, the Southwest Chamber Music, Kronos Quartet and the Orchestre Philaharmonique de Montepellier.
The quartet has given concerts in the capitals of several countries including the US, Britain, France, Canada, Italy and Germany.
