A man accused of slaughtering his wife and little daughters was so smitten by remorse and guilt that he held his own trial inside Gonda jail cell. He awarded himself death penalty!
Vinay Pratap Shukla, resident of Gajarhawa, turned beastly when he took an iron rod and smashed the head and bones of his 30-year-old wife Rekha. The cause of attack was quarrel over a trivial issue.
On that particular night, Vinay was in a towering rage. He not only murdered his wife but also chopped the heads and faces of his three daughters Ranju (10), Roshni(6) and Kajal (2).
He did not even spare his two-year-old kid Kajal who was lying in a pram and looked at him with innocent eyes unable to speak anything but 'Papa' as he hit her mercilessly with an iron rod till her face and head were reduced to pulp.
Only his fourth daughter Ragini escaped death as she was in another room at the time when Shukla had become evil personified.
Vinay has been arrested now. In jail when he again became a composed man, he realized what he had done to his loving wife and dear daughters.

{{/usCountry}}For three days, Shukla himself enacted the role of police, judge, prosecutor and defense counsel and argued in favour of and against his case. He cursed and abused himself 1000 times and described himself as a "hatyara (murderer).
After three days of trial in his cell, Shukla pronounced himself guilty and awarded himself death punishment: I order that you should be hanged till death.
Thereafter, he came out of his cell for going to the toilet. There he escaped the attention of the guards and hanged himself with a rope from a nearby tree.
