ATTENDING THE procession of the Lord of Good Fortune left a family poorer. Thieves decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth around Rs 4 lakh from a Sudama Nagar house on Wednesday night. At the time of the incident, the family members had gone out to see Ganesh immersion procession.
According to the Annapurna police, the incident occurred at 977, Sudama Nagar. Anil, son of Omprakash Arya, lives here with his family. On Wednesday night, Anil, who works as a senior officer in a private company, and his family had left the house at around 11 pm to see the tableaux that are brought out on occasion of the immersion of Lord Ganesh.
When they returned home at around 3 pm, they found the lock on front door broken. The almirah in the house had been forced open and the thieves had taken away cash of around Rs 20,000 and more than Rs 3.70 lakh worth of gold and silver ornaments. They immediately informed police who came to the spot along with the forensic team.
TI S P Dube said that after receiving the information at around 3.45 am, he and his team rushed to the site. The house where the theft took place is a two-storied house. While Anil lives on the first floor, his younger brother Ashok lives on the ground floor.

{{/usCountry}}Both have separate entrances and that is the reason why even though Ashok and his family, who were sleeping on the ground floor, were unaware of the thieves cleaning up the place on the first floor. Before leaving the thieves had even locked Ashok’s front door so the theft was noticed only after Anil returned home and opened the door.
While searching for cash and jewellery, the thieves had emptied the entire contents of the almirah and all the clothes and other household goods were strewn about the house. Normally, the Arya family keeps their jewellery in a bank locker, but they had recently taken it out during the rakhi festival.
