The most dramatic among them is the political baptism of NTR's daughter Purandareswari who is contesting from Bapatla Lok Sabha constituency on Congress ticket while her husband D Venkateshwara Rao, who had joined Congress recently, is seeking election from Parachur assembly seat in Prakasam district.

Ironically, the legendary hero and founder of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) late NT Rama Rao was an epitome of anti-Congressism, having fought against Congress all his life.

The former Congress Chief Minister N Janardhan Reddy and his wife N Rajyalakshmi are also in the poll fray. While Reddy, who represented Narsaraopet Lok Sabha constituency in the dissolved House, has shifted to Visakhapatnam this time, his wife is seeking re-election from Venkatagiri assembly seat in Nellore district.

The influential 'Bhooma' family in the faction-ridden Rayalaseema region, affiliated to ruling TDP, continued to hold sway over the region. The Bhooma couple Nagi Reddy, who represented Nandyal in the dissolved Lok Sabha, and Shobha, a legislator from Allagadda in Kurnool district, have swapped their seats this time.
