Wife of Solomon Das of Christian Colony, Dolly, had delivered a baby only 24 hours ago. Though the injury was not serious—as confirmed by an ultrasound—the hospital authorities rushed the three for treatment to the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (Civil) hospital, immediately after the incident.

The hospital administration also ordered an enquiry into the incident, and it was learnt that the fan was installed in the room only a few days before.

The incident took place during OPD hours at around 10.30 am, when the woman was in bed with her newborn. The fan fell down giving minor injuries to both. The crashing sound created panic on the campus for a few minutes, as there were quite a few persons in the out patients department. Senior doctors too were visiting the wards.

It may be mentioned that the State is planning to make this hospital a model hospital with super specialty services under one roof. A proposal to the effect was demanded recently from hospital authorities detailing the requirement of equipment and renovation of the building.

Whether it was a human error or just an unfortunate incident, patients admitted to the hospital are avoiding to rest under the ceiling fans. At least, for now.
