The SP-led State Government had approved the project to establish a hi-tech city between Mohansarai and Rohania in Varanasi. Activists of Sangharsh Samiti and resident of all the 11 villages, where the proposed city was to come up, had launched a massive stir against the SP government.

“We have a lot of expectation from Mayawati and hope she would cancel the proposed hi-tech city to come up on a 220-acre land in Varanasi,” said Samiti convenor Hira Lal Yadav.

He said that an application seeking cancellation of the setting up of the hi-tech city would be handed over to the district magistrate to be forwarded to BSP supremo Mayawati. He further added that a delegation of the Samiti would meet Mayawati soon in Lucknow in this regard.

"A meeting of the leaders and office-bearers of Sangharsh Samiti will be convened soon,” he added.

Lambasting the outgoing Mulayam Singh Yadav government, Hira Lal said that a senior leader of the Samajwadi Party had minted money by accepting the proposal of a private company to establish the hi-tech city in Varanasi.
