A man attempted suicide along with his two children by consuming poisonous substance in Sironj town of Vidisha district, about 54 km from here, on Saturday. While both children died, the man is undergoing treatment at Hamidia Hospital in critical condition.

Police said Ashok Ahirwar, 32, a resident of Kshatri Naka, Sironj, along with his two children Akash and Sakshi consumed poisonous substance at his home. Akash died on the spot, while Sakshi died on the way to Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal.

According to information, Ahirwar’s wife had died after prolonged illness about two months ago. Since his wife's death, Ahirwar was under depression. It is surmised that the depression drove him to end his live along with his children.

Ahirwar, who hails from village Kundan Khedi under Sironj police station, was working as a private driver in Bhopal and was also living here along with his family. He had left Bhopal after his wife's death and started living at a rented house at Kshatri Naka.

In-charge of Sironj police station, Dinesh Prajapati, said, "In the investigation, it was found that he was under depression. But, we are yet to record his statement. A case has been registered and investigation is on."
