Security forces and a group of militants were involved in a fierce gun battle on Friday night in Rajouri town of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The police opened fire on a group of militants hiding in Bela colony of migrant labourers from Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

"We launched the operation around 8.30 pm on a specific information that militants were hiding in the area," said Rajouri police chief Farooq Khan.
Rajouri, 160 km north of here, is barely 20 km from the Line of Control that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
