Fifteen killed in two fire mishaps in China

Fire in both accidents has been extinguished and a probe into the cause of the fire is under progress.

At least 15 people, including nine women workers, were killed and nine others injured in two separate fire mishaps in China on Sunday, state media reported.

At least six persons were killed and eight others injured when a fire broke out in a six-storey building, which housed an electrical appliances store, in southwest China's Sichuan province.The blaze started at about 4 am.

The local government sent a fleet of 18 fire engines and 134 firemen to the site, rescuing 11 people from the building and evacuating 31 others in the neighbourhood. The fire was put out an hour later, rescuers said.

The first floor of the building is a shop selling electrical household appliances and communications equipment, the upper floors serve as offices and warehouses.The cause of the fire is being investigated.

In another incident, nine women workers were killed and another was slightly injured in a fire on Sunday morning at an undergarment workshop in Shenyang, capital of the north-eastern Liaoning province.

The fire broke out when 13 workers were sleeping in the dormitory of the factory. Three of them escaped, according to local police.
