Filing of nominations begin

THE CIVIC election process was set in motion on Tuesday with the filing of nominations in 68 districts all over the state. However, filing of nomination papers in Kanpur city and Mau would commence from October 5 and 6 respectively.

THE CIVIC election process was set in motion on Tuesday with the filing of nominations in 68 districts all over the state. However, filing of nomination papers in Kanpur city and Mau would commence from October 5 and 6 respectively.

In view of complaints during filing of nomination papers in Mohammadabad nagar palika in Ghazipur district, the state election commission has directed the DIG Varanasi to camp there as observer. The commission had received a complaint that some people were terrorising the candidates in the town. Similarly, joint development commissioner, Faizabad, had been directed to monitor the nomination process in Colonelganj nagar palika in Gonda district.

Additional commissioner Vinay Priya Dubey said that on the first day of nominations not many papers were filed. The process would continue up to October 6. In Kanpur City nominations would be filed from October 5 to 9 and in Mau from October 6 to 9. Dubey said that the elections would be held in 12 municipal corporations, 420 nagar panchayats, and 193 nagar palika parishads in which 2.47 cr voters would exercise their franchise.
