Old film-makers should retire to make way for younger people to realise their potential and talents.
The statement comes from the outspoken Sudhir Mishra, Chairman of the feature film jury at this year's national awards and a film-maker himself.
"Film-makers don't retire like politicians. This should change," Mishra told a news conference at the Goa International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Monday.
Mr Mishra, who made the box office hit Hazaaron Kwaishein Aisi, said old film-makers should follow the example of melody queen Lata Mangeshkar.
"Lataji said she would not sing after a particular stage. Our film-makers too should do that."
Mr Mishra said the same film personalities are being spoken about again and again though there is a lot of potential and talent among the younger generation.
"I have great regards for Naseeruddin Shah, but we should also talk about the younger actors," he said.
He said the younger film-makers are not allowed to make films because "the same people are still around". "We must promote young talents," he added.
The film-maker also advocated fixing an age limit for the chairman of the jury for national awards. "The next chairman of the jury should not be more than 30 years old."

Would he put a time limit for himself to retire? "I shouldn't get any help from government from now onwards," Mishra, whose early films include Dharav and Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, said evading a direct answer.
