“The new sub-station will add more teeth to the fire department to deal with untoward accidents in the city. Apart from this station, Manesar fire station is also proposed,” said Hanuman Sihag, chief fire officer, Gurgaon.

“The fire department is planning to send a letter to Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) requesting it to build some more fire stations in the city,” said Sihag.

The city needs a number of fire stations. There is an urgent need of fire stations at Sector 56 and Pautadi, said a senior fire official on the condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the Gurgaon fire department conducted mock drills at the Air Force station near Maruti building, ITC building, Sector 32, Mid City and DLF building-8 on Wednesday. “The drill was conducted between 11 am- 4 pm at these locations,” said Sihag.

“There were 28 jawans and three senior fire officials in five fire tenders who participated in the mock drills. We also invited local people, security staff and volunteers to take part in the drills.” Officials said participation of volunteers is important as it can help spread awareness about fire safety within a short period of time.
