THE FIRST positive case of dengue in a resident of the capital was confirmed on Friday, bringing the menace closer home. Till now all cases that were detected and patients who succumbed in Bhopal hospitals were residents of other districts.
New cases continue to pour in with two others – though of patients from outside the district – being reported from two more private hospitals in capital. The State Control Room reported one suspected case from Rajgarh and five from Gwalior. The samples would be sent to National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), New Delhi, for confirmation.
Bhopal Chief Medical Officer Dr V S Ohri confirmed to Hindustan Times that a patient named Meera Saxena, resident of Chhatrasal Nagar, has tested positive for the disease. The report of the blood sample was received from Thyrocare Laboratory, Mumbai, on Friday. Meera was an outdoor patient with physician Dr N P Mishra and her initial test was conducted at the Maitri Pathology Laboratory in the City. The patient is, however, doing quite well and is not admitted to any hospital, the CMO said.
Dr Ohri further informed that two other positive cases – one each from Nilay Hospital and Akshay Hospital - were also reported on Friday. Meanwhile, another patient admitted to National Hospital remained in stable condition.

{{/usCountry}}Ohri said that preventive and curative measures were already on in the district, but in the light of the first positive case from the City, anti-mosquito operations would be intensified in Chhatrasal Nagar and surrounding areas.
CHIKUNGUNYA CASES: The State Control Room reported 35 suspected cases of chikungunya each from Sehore and Sagar, 23 from Dhar, 21 from Damoh, 15 each from Balaghat and Raisen, four from Bhind and one from Hoshangabad on Friday.
