The hunt is on for the alleged kingpin of the kidney racket, Dr. Amit Kumar. Meanwhile, Gurgaon police on Monday made some interesting revelations.
Five in one
Amit Kumar was operating across the country with five fictitious names and carries about five fake passports. He has married twice. Gurgaon police released photographs of his wife with him. Gurgaon police commissioner Mohinder Lal said the Kumar's real name is Santosh Rameshwar Rout and he hails from Nagpur. He began doing illegal kidney transplants from Kaushalya Nursing Home in Mumbai in 1993. Then, he fled and worked from different parts of the country. He even went to Canada on a fake passport.
“He used names such as Dr. Amit Chaudhary, Dr. Amit Purshotam, Dr. Rajesh and Dr. Suresh wherever he went to escape police arrest. He has conducted his operations in Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh,” the commissioner said.
Dr. Jeewan Kumar, his brother, accompanied him everywhere. According to police source his brother would take care of the finances and the business-related activities. “We doubt his qualification as a doctor. We would also take help from Nagpur police to find out whether Kumar was a qualified doctor or a quack. A passport seized from his house mentions him as an MD," Lal said.
More hideouts, luxury cars
The police commissioner said teams conducting raids have found the two apartments of Dr. Amit Kumar from where he carried out “his nefarious activities”.
“He has an apartment in Essel Towers in M.G. Road. The other one was on the second floor of Executive Floors in Sector 56. Both properties were used for lodging his clients and other para-medical staff. Other properties are in DLF City Phase II, Sector 23 and Sector 14 premises,” said Lal. He also has a long list of properties in other parts of the country, police said.

{{/usCountry}}Lal said Kumar also owns nine luxury cars. They include two Mercedes, one Toyotas Corolla, Tavera, Honda City and an Indigo. They were used to ferry patients from one facility to another or pick and drop to airports.
Patients used doctor’s website
Lal said documents seized reveal that about 48 patients from across the world had sent requests for kidney transplant in the last couple of months. Some patients had also used the website created by Kumar for marketing his work. Majority of the requests were from Greece, police said.
Eight bank accounts
Documents reveal that Kumar and his brother have about eight bank accounts in national and foreign banks. “We are trying to get details from these banks but we have apprehension that the duo must have transferred their money electronically to their foreign banks,” Lal said.
One more hospital in Noida
Police claimed that Dr. Upender Kumar of Ballabgarh who was arrested by Moradabad police on January 24 also owns another hospital, Mohit Hospital in Raghupura, in Gautambud Nagar in UP. “He was running this facility for the same kidney transplant primarily with the help of his wife Dr. Archana,” he said.
