Andhra Pradesh appears headed for a political crisis, with a section of lawmakers from the ruling Congress determined to resign from their posts on Monday to press for Telangana statehood.

On Friday, 26 Congress lawmakers declared their intent to resign. With four dissident TDP MLAs sending in their resignation on Sunday, the pro-Telangana Congress leaders are now wary of going back on their threat. In the 294-member assembly, Congress has 155 members. With the support of allies it has a strength of 183. If the party's 26 pro-Telengana MLAs go ahead with their resignations, it will not imperil the survival of the chief minister.
