Twenty-three more deaths were reported since Saturday, mainly due to house collapse and drowning, taking the toll to 125.

The flood-battered state got some relief with no fresh rain on Saturday.

"About 180,000 people have been evacuated from the 1,400 marooned or badly inundated villages in large parts of eastern UP," state Relief Commissioner Umesh Sinha told IANS.

The floods have been caused by three rivers flowing from Nepal which are a source of perennial menace, Sinha said.

The Army was called out in at least two districts to assist civil authorities in tackling the floods.
